On Aadhaar linking deadline.

A notification issued by the Department of Financial Services under the Finance Ministry on 12th December has extended the deadline to link the 12-digit aadhaar card number to any account related proceedings is March 31, 2018.

However, it has been opposed as it may pose threat to one’s privacy rights since the centre has asked all the citizens to link their Aadhaar numbers with their mobile numbers, driving license, bank accounts and various services and schemes of the centre. It was also told that failure to link Aadhaar to the aforementioned areas would block all those services.

Central government had set 6th February as the deadline to link Aadhaar with its several services and schemes in order to continue enjoying the same. But there were concerns that the linking of Aadhaar would curb the privacy rights of an individual.

Those who have not linked their Aadhaar number receive messages asking them to link it. Amidst the chaos whether Aadhaar would be compulsory or not, there are still millions of people yet to start the linking process. And all of them wished either for postponement of the deadline if not nullifying the linking process.

Looks like the centre has decided to uphold the demand of the people. Yesterday, the government decided to extend the deadline for Aadhaar linking to 31 March 2018.

This breather from the centre has been much awaited and most welcome because it will help reduce the panic and anxiety across the country as well as sufficient time for those who are yet to get their Aadhaar cards and for those who have their cards but are yet to link it.
